Beets are known as a “circulation superfood”. They’re a rich source of phytochemicals and bioactive compounds, such as betalains, flavonoids, polyphenols, saponins and inorganic nitrate.

In the body, inorganic nitrate gets converted to nitric oxide, where, for example, it acts as a “vasodilator.” That means it “opens up” the highways (i.e., the vessels) through which blood travels.
